Food to reduce cholesterol levels


Millions of people around the world continually search for food to reduce cholesterol levels. This is because there are also millions that are affected with cholesterol related health problems. In addition, most of these people are undiagnosed or if they were they are unaware that they should undergo treatment. This often leads to the heart diseases that claim about 17 million lives every year around the world.
With that being mentioned people turn to certain food to reduce cholesterol levels. These foods are:For those that were diagnosed to have high levels of cholesterol and are aware that they should undergo treatment, take cholesterol-lowering drugs. More commonly known as statin drugs, it does efficiently bring down low density lipoproteins swiftly but it has also been found to give negative effects as well. Studies have shown that statin drugs when used in long periods of time can lead to liver malfunction, muscle deterioration, muscle pains, tenderness of joints and weakness of muscles, memory lapses, difficulty in concentrating, depression and irritability. These are but a few of the adverse effects that you can get out of taking cholesterol-lowering drugs.
  • High soluble fiber foods – soluble fiber can be acquired from a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Soluble fiber cannot be digested and acts as a cleansing agent as it travels through our digestive system. At the same time it absorbs excess dietary cholesterol which later gets excreted from our system.  
  • Fish rich in omega-3 – omega-3 has been proven time and time again to raise high density lipoproteins, as well as decrease the levels of low density lipoproteins and triglycerides. If eating fish is not your forte then you can opt to take fish oil supplements for a more efficient manner of reaching daily omega-3 levels.
  • Oats and barley – this sometime boring meal contains high levels of fiber and beta-glucan. Studies performed on the latter has been proven to lower cholesterol by as much as 5.3 percent.
  • Nuts – eating of at least 1.5 ounce of almonds, walnuts, and the like can lower total cholesterol by 5.4 percent. Bad cholesterol by 9.3 percent.  
  • Red wine – studies have proven that it can reduce cholesterol by 9 percent.
You can ask you dietician or do more research on the internet in search of more effective food to  reduce cholesterol levels for a better life.
